When dealing with community, church, charity, religious or spiritual logos, a designer must incorporate a certain level of taste, sensitivity and understanding of the subject matter involved. Unlike other types of logos for corporate entities, throwing together a few simplistic icons and swooshes isn't even an option - there are certain caveats and ideologies that need to be factored in the logo design process. We have to be careful not to offend the target audience with inappropriate imagery, while still keeping in mind the base goal of any design project - to develop a visual brand identity that encapsulates the organization being represented. Community groups, churches and and religious organizations are starting to understand the importance of marketing and are beginning to view the development of a branded identity - be it for a church, charity or a town & community organization - as a critical component of reaching their audience. Developing a logo for a community group often involves 'design by committee', a sometimes perilous journey for both designer and client that requires the attention of an experienced designer who can also function as a diplomat. While 'design by committee' is not the best route to take , the nature of church, charity and community organizations often makes it unavoidable. When a large group of people are responsible for selecting, approving and modifying the logo throughout the various design stages, it is usually the loudest (and dare we say – the committee staffer with the largest ego) who invariably makes their opinion heard – not the committee member who has a keen sense of design. Better to select a ‘voice’ for the committee who is keenly aware of your group’s goals.

| Sharing Down Syndrome Arizona. Poster style logo for a Down Syndrome support group based in Arizona. Like most community logos, this design needed to be visually appealing without being garish or 'woo-hoo' in the graphic styling. |
Political Sound Off. Politics plays a great part in the development of any community, and over the years we've worked on quite a few political logos. This design - for a political online community - features a highly stylized US flag and custom font work. |
Networks - First Church at Verrado. Simple iconic buildings make up this design for a church located in Buckeye, Arizona. Designed to evoke a neighborhood theme, the design features buildings from the town, as well as the church itself. |

| Watt's Performing Arts Centre. Design for a community based Arts centre. SImple graphic figures and clean typography add up to a decent little logo that we developed several years ago. These simple pictogram figures are extremely popular, and used frequently, so our designers strive for originality each time we utilize this style. |
Portside Church. While churches often use similar graphic approaches in their logos (cross, lighthouse, compass, dove, etc), we can still use an infinite number of approaches to create original designs. Case in point - this logo for Portside Church which uses a lighthouse as the main focus, but the iconic treatment and custom font make it work. |
Labatt Williamsburg. Design for a town features a local landmark as the main focus. Whenever we're working with actual buildings, it's usually very important that the illustrations are accurate. When working remotely with clients, they simply e-mail our designers photographic reference from which we can work. |

| Sirepa. A graphic logo for the Southwest Iowa Regional Economic and Port Authority need to 'fit' a range of different themes into their design without appearing too visually cluttered. We had to keep this design technically simple as well - planned uses are everything from letterheads to vinyl signs and metal sign posts. |
Rose Petals Hospice. A logo for a hospice and support group for terminally ill children and their families. This design required an extremely sensitive approach while still portraying a nurturing image. Not an easy project, but one we were glad to be part of. You can view the Rose Petals desktop design here. |
Horizons Church. Fairly complex graphic treatment of a compass & globe, a popular theme for many church logos. This design was also developed by our designers into a Flash Logo Lick. You can view this Flash spinning logo in our Theatre. |

| City of Shafter. A logo for the City of Shafter, located in California. We were brought onboard for this project after several attempts with traditional design companies were unsuccessful. You can read comments about this project on our what people say page. |
Families in harmony. A church-based family support group. Simple iconic design illustrated spiritual growth and harmony, while muted earth tone colours kept the logo suitable for the main purpose of the organization. |
Genesis United Methodist Congregation. Simple text driven design for a Methodist church avoided complex graphics and concepts. Text logos can be quite effective in developing a brand awareness throughout the community. |
