Scalable
Industry standard for the distribution of high-quality images, while still remaining small enough in file size for bandwidth and download speed concerns. Can be either CMYK or RGB (more CMYK friendly .TIF is suggested if working with PIXEL based images for offset printing). Can be multiple resolutions from 300 (print production and/or special FX) to 72 dpi (web site and other electronic reproduction). Generally larger file size than .gifs but have the advantage of true colour accuracy when colours are outside the 216 web-safe range. Cannot have transparent backgrounds on web sites, but can be converted to .PNG for import into Flash. Unlike .gif images, .jpg versions of your logo cannot have background transparency turned on, but require the entire logo footprint for use on a web site.

Resolution
Varied 300 dpi (PX) Print, 72 dpi (PX) for electronic.

Uses
Web sites, certain print applications, special FX.

File names

JPG formats have the file extensions .jpg.

JPG Formats - Properties
Advantages and distinct properties of your .jpg based logo files.

RGB Colour Compatible RGB colour reproduction available. Your logo can be converted to feature RGB colours for use in electronic publishing and on web sites.
CMYK colour compatible CMYK colour reproduction available. Your logo can be reproduced in conjunction with other CMYK images (ie: colour photographs in brochures and catalogues). Will require four colour process printing. Image must be of sufficient resolution.
Small file size Small file size. Some lower resolution .jpgs of your logo can be transported to printers, design vendors & transmitted electronically (via e-mail) efficiently. Higher resolution versions of your logo may be quite large and require alternative methods of distribution.
Web friendly Web friendly. Most .jpg based versions of your logo can be used on your web site (with the correct resolution, 72 DPI, and correct colour palette - RGB).
Reduction Scalable (reduction). Your logo can be scaled down without any image degradation. .jpg based images cannot be enlarged without losing image integrity.
Special FX filters Special FX friendly. .jpg based images can utilize special FX filters in desktop 'paint' programmes. You can apply lens flares, glows and other Pixel based FX to your logo.
Greyscale Create Black/White greyscale (halftone) logo. Your logo can be converted to a Black and White greyscale (halftone) version. Some colours that contrast vividly, may appear tonally very similar if a straight conversion is performed.
